M1 Carbine, Subcontract Receivers
An advanced carbine collection will start to include one or more of the examples of a receiver which was supplied by a subcontractor to a prime contractor. In addition, the prime contractors worked amazingly well to help each other meet quota by supplying receivers between primes.
Most common are the receivers marked by the subcontractor on the beveled surface at the rear of the receiver. Subcontractors that marked their receivers in the manner were Auto Ordnance (AO), Singer (S) and Union Switch & Signal??.
The next type are receivers with a prime contractor's name lined through, and a different primes name stamped above or below the original name.
The rarest subcontract receiver example has a humorous twist to. Union Switch & Signal subcontract receivers were supplied to Quality Hardware. In a word contraction that one would not want to see on their combat weapon, these receivers bear the name Un-Quality.
This first piece is from the first Quality Hardware contract. It is in excellent original condition, with all original sling, oiler, stock mag pouch, 3 15 round mags, and canvas case.
