THE DAVIS MILITARIA
Lend Lease 1911-A1
Following the British evacuation at Dunkirk, firearms with which to face a likely German invasion were at a premium. US President FDR likened the European was to a neighbor who needs to borrow a hose to put out the fire consuming his home. The resulting program was called Lend/Lease. It provided a much needed influx of military equipment to the valiant Brits. Included in the shipments were 1911-A1 pistols.
These were originally not marked in any special way. In the 1950s, the British sold these pistols commercially. British law required these to be inspected and marked by one of the British proof houses. This mark is the only reliable way to determine that a small arm had been given to the British.
This piece is in outstanding original condition, all matching, with the correct magazine and holster.
