THE DAVIS MILITARIA
1941 Johnson Automatic Rifle
As late as the late 1930s, the Marine Corps turned up its collective nose at the idea of a semi-automatic rifle. By the time they wanted in on the M1 Rifle, one of their more foresighted members, Marine Captain Melvin Johnson, had developed a semi-auto contender.
It was judged a good rifle. Even superior to the M1 Garand in some respects. However, it was too late to take first chair away from John Garand's design. One Marine Corps unit was equipped with the rifle, designated the Model 1941.
This piece is an exceptionally nice Model 1941 Johnson with a bayonet, scabbard, and manual.
